For those following my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of the last week, the new case came today. Amazon sent me a Fractal Design Define R6, with the USB-C front port and tempered glass side panel so I can enjoy star ing at my future machine. I’m pretty sure I’ll have a use for a front USB-C port in the future, and I’m a sucker for tempered glass.

Ellie was displeased that a substitute Postman rang the door bell, so she had to threaten to eat him while rearing up and pounding her front paws on the door. All our regular delivery drivers have learned to park at the next house down and never ring the door bell.

I’m a happy camper with this case purchase. Everything on this case seems well thought out and the attention to detail is top notch. I proceeded to strip the case down for the build and set it up for the open configuration. I’m not running a bunch of drives, so I’ll opt for undisturbed airflow from the front of the case. My SSDs that will be the boot drive and steam library will mount on the PSU shroud, and the 3.5" HDD for media storage will mount on the backside. I can see this case being around for many builds down the road.

Now I just need more parts to show up from Amazon.
As always, thanks Oppo for being a place where I babble about things I’m interested in. I hope your Mondays have been as good as can be expected.

To the dog thing, pizza places started to refuse delivery because of my 100lb dog who would charge the door, never to hurt, just to make sure they were welcome, but it was enough to scare them off forever.

I’m pretty happy with my Define Mini C. Main complaints are that it doesn’t have a type C port (in theory it seems like they could offer an upgrade, though it may be too niche to justify that), and that it feels a bit flimsy, especially without front fans installed (they are basically structural elements). Additionally the cable routing system blocks one of my motherboard’s internal USB 3 ports (though a 90° adapter might work if I needed it). The upside to the choice to use thin steel is that it’s pretty light for a steel case. Generally speaking though everything seems well designed and laid out, and it looks pretty sharp.

Whenever we order pizza, I always put do not ring the door bell in the delivery instructions. I also usually find something to do in the garage or out front around the time they’re supposed to arrive, so I meet them before they do something dumb like ring the door bell.

I know on the R6 the non-USB-C case can be upgraded with a new front I/O, but I don’t know if it fits other cases. On this case the panel that holds/hides a tower of 3.5" is certainly structural. The front wasn’t as stiff while I had it removed in the process of moving it to the rear position for the open layout.

When I first started building my own computers I loved the windows and lights and so on. But now I really just want my peace an quiet so I use insulated cases and buy everything based ond the noise level.
But if you use headphones or don’t care about noise that’s a really nice tower!
What parts are you waiting for?

MSI X470 Gaming 7 AC board, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO and a set of Corsair LPX 3200mhz 16GB ram sticks.
I will reuse the Ryzen 7 1700 I’m currently running, along the with RX590 and Seasonic Focus Gold Plus 750w PSU. The basic plan is for this to be a build with some upgrade room down the road. I’ll consider a 2700x or Ryzen 3rd gen upgrade later on this year. This should continue to be an ample 1080p rig, with the ability to be a GPU upgrade away from more when/if prices on 29" or larger 1440p or 4k monitors with fast refresh rates drop further.

Unfortunately the Mini-C one is a different shape, so they’d have to release a different part.
The difference between:
And:
If they refresh the Mini C for USB type C, then they might do something, but I wouldn’t expect it otherwise.

The R6 should still be a pretty good case in terms of noise, provided he doesn’t install fans at the top (which might leave it a bit too open). Granted it would be better with the i ns u la ted steel side panel as opposed to glass, but it shouldn’t be a bad choice.

Yeah it’s been a while since I got my case but now I think about about it.. I think it’s an R6 as well. Just without the glass and obviously an older version.

Looking at that, and looking at mine. I’d be curious if the difference is accomplished with a few minu te s and a file rounding the edges . It would make sense to me from a manufacturing perspective if the form factor is otherwise the same.

No. A single color maybe, but I couldn’t look at that for very long.

I always tried to be around the front of my house, but it never always worked out.
Even telling them not to knock never worked out, they would still knock on the door.
My dog isn’t even aggressive, just a big baby.

I’ve switched to using FD for some configurations, but never windowed. They have pretty good acoustics, but invariably need air distribution work.
I just really wish they would do a new Node design in uATX. Their upper offerings are great, but the Focus G is just straight up cheap junk.

It’s not. The original Mini uses a totally different setup. How different?
Yup. It has a door on it. So it’s
totally
different.

Basically.
My dog stole burgers off the counter at my girlfriends dad’s house when they were watching him one day. He sees the chance and goes for it.

I have the worst dog in the world. Just the worst.
Jack Russel crossed with German Shepherd . (No, the vet couldn’t figure out how either.)
Infinite learning capacity, infinite boredom, infinite energy . Which means that she can differentiate green ball, green bone, antler, pork chop, squeaky bone , short rope, and long rope. And will insist you play with her. Constantly. At all times.
And should you fail to... she has learned how to open some doors, how to ambush the cats, how to throw toys to herself, how to drop things down the stairs to get attention, how to throw toys at the cats, how to climb trees, how to GET ALL THE WAY ONTO THE COUNTER, and how to GET ON THE KITCHEN TABLE. As in standing on them. Not back paws on the floor. All four legs, on the damn table.
I still have no idea how, because she managed this without moving the table cloth and despite all the chairs being pushed in.

The R6 has a door, also. I took the whole assembly off the front to t he access the screws for the front drive tower/thing and moved it to the rear position for the open layout option.

The R6 ‘door’ is totally different, as is the front panel. The stupid photo Kinja’d.

My dog is weird, he’s a Carolina wild dog, which is a pretty interesting breed overall, but super smart, fast learners, and sometimes hyper active, even at 7 years old he plays like a puppy.
He can open just about any door, he knows where the meat is in the fridge and how to get to it, we have a kennel but he can’t stay in it because of the 4.5 years of abuse he dealt with and has sever anxiety, if he is in the kennel too long he will break the door open however he can.
He has also managed to jump ontop of our table, and even over the backyard fence more than once before he learned how the gate opens.

Wanna trade?
She already figured out she doesn’t need to open the gate. She can just jump over the fence. Including the 8 foot privacy fence.
And she’s only gotten more hyperactive. She slept more as a puppy.

My family has had bostons that had plenty of leg strength to just jump up on tables directly (claw marks were involved) . I’m sure they could have done counters as well had they realized.
For dogs without that talent, if they are smart enough, it doesn’t matter:
